Social Learning and Emotional Regulation (SOLER) Workshop
1-Day OrPATS Virtual Workshop
This one-day workshop provides participants with examples and practice activities to teach Social and Emotional Learning Skills (SEL) utilizing evidence-based practices identified in the National Standards Report (2015). Intended for educators of students in elementary and middle school, this workshop will guide participants using the Social Learning and Emotional Regulation (SOLER) curriculum. Participants will learn how to determine a student’s current level for each skill target and where to begin instruction. An online system will be demonstrated with hands-on practice opportunities. Participants will learn how to access and use structured lesson plans alongside a curriculum scope and sequence to teach SEL skills. In addition, participants will be presented with strategies for using evidence-based practices like social narratives, role-play, peer-based instruction, video modeling, and self-monitoring. The workshop will include extensive data collection systems so participants can feel confident measuring progress both during the social skills group and during generalization of skills in natural settings.

Inclusive Autism Programs: A Deep Dive into Strategies, Resources & Implementation
3-Hour OrPATS Virtual Workshop
In this half-day workshop, participants will gain an understanding of strategies and practices to support students with autism and other developmental disabilities in inclusive learning environments across the grade span. Attendees will learn about common terms related to inclusion, and a variety of inclusion models will be discussed. We will share research on inclusion as well as evidence-based practices to support inclusion success for each unique student. This training highlights the importance of a collaborative, team-based approach so that students are provided with consistent instruction and support across learning environments. Participants will be provided with resources and tools to support inclusion for all students while continuing to focus on individual student progress through assessment and data collection. Join us to identify the skills that support student participation in natural environments and general education settings, how to implement ABA strategies in an inclusive environment, and next steps for immediate implementation.
NOTE: This session provides an overview of evidence-based practices for students with autism and other developmental disabilities. Virtual Parent-Caregiver Training
The virtual parent-caregiver training series provides information and tools for supporting children with autism and other The virtual parent-caregiver training series provides information and tools for supporting children with autism and other developmental disabilities in the home setting. Each session will cover evidence-based and effective strategies to use during routines at home and will cover supports for students in both Pre-K, Primary & Secondary ages. All classes in the series use live instruction, demonstration, video, and discussion to present the information. The first set of sessions is designed as a series, but it is not necessary to attend all sessions to benefit. When possible, we encourage parents-caregivers to attend each of the 4 sessions based on individual schedule/availability. Classroom teachers and/or school support staff are also welcomed to attend for collaboration.
Each session will be 1 hour.
Session 1: Identifying Strategies That Work
How does autism impact learning and behavior? This session presents the importance of using evidence-based practices to support the learning needs of children with autism and other related disabilities. Caregivers will learn which strategies have been proven to be effective and how they can collaborate with educators to support their child at home and at school.
Session 2: Behavior: Increasing Desired Behaviors at Home and in Your Community
To address behaviors perceived as challenging, it’s important for caregivers to understand and effectively use behavioral principles to help children understand expectations and increase desired behaviors. This session identifies commonly-used behavioral terms and provides a variety of tips and suggestions families can use for building positive behaviors at home and in the community.
Session 3: Do with, Not For: Teaching Skills Through Functional Routines Using Supports
Children who are independent and motivated during home routines are better prepared for success in other environments, including at school and in the community. This session describes how to break down routines into small steps and identify ways to support the child during difficult parts of the routine, such as setting up the environment, adding visual supports, and using reinforcement. Additionally, caregivers will learn examples of how to embed skill instruction into daily routines.
Session 4: Puberty and Adolescence: Preparing Yourself and Your Child
Puberty brings new challenges that can be difficult to explain and teach to children with autism. It is important for caregivers to partner with educational staff to start discussions about body changes early and identify new routines to teach like shaving, using a menstrual pad, and wearing deodorant. In addition, teams should use visual tools and specific teaching strategies to teach the difference between public and private behaviors related to puberty. Free resources and tools will be shared so that educational teams and families can work together to navigate these new situations.

Virtual Autism Consultant Training Series
Multi-Part Online Workshop Series
We are excited to continue to offer this annual training in a virtual format. Prior to the 2020-21 school year, our New ASD Consultant/Specialist trainings were offered in-person to provide orientation, information, and resources on topics of interest for new autism consultants and/or specialists. It is also an opportunity to meet and collaborate with colleagues in the same position throughout the state. Continuing virtually will allow us to meet more frequently. It will also allow us to collaborate not only with our first year “new” autism specialists/consultants, but also with those ASD consultant/specialists looking for a refresher on content or for new information as many districts/programs are now supporting remote, hybrid and blended learning opportunities for students. You are required to register individually and can join for just a few, or for all 8 sessions!
