Pre-school/Elementary Evidence-Based Practices Using the STAR
® Program

Participants will receive training on how to use the following instructional strategies: discrete trial training, pivotal response training, teaching functional routines and positive behavior intervention and supports as used in the STAR Program. This workshop is appropriate for teachers, assistants, related service providers, specialists and administrators working with students with ASD and other related developmental disabilities.

Consistency of Implementation: An Advanced Workshop on ABA & Evidence Based Strategies Used in the STAR Program

1-Day OrPATS Workshop:
Consistency of Implementation: An Advanced Workshop on Evidence Based Strategies Used in the STAR® Program (Arick, Loos, Falco and Krug 2015)

This one-day advanced workshop on implementing evidence-based practices as used in the STAR Program (Arick, Loos, Falco and Krug, 2015) will include a review of substantive improvements and updates to lesson plans, procedures, and forms (examples of Version 2 data forms will be provided). We will also summarize the results of recently published research on the effects of comprehensive treatment models (CTMs) for children with ASD.

Participants will also receive consistency of implementation training on the following instructional strategies: teaching functional routines, pivotal response training, discrete trial training and the use of positive behavior intervention and supports as used in the STAR Program.  Initial and on-going assessment of student skills using the STAR Student Learning Profile will also be addressed.

The workshop is designed for pre-school, elementary, or middle school staff currently implementing evidence-based practices using the STAR curriculum with students. Participants should have already attended a two day workshop on the STAR Program or have had extensive experience implementing the program.

Development of EI/ECSE Parent Training Teams

1-Day OrPATS Workshop:
Parent Training for Preschool

This workshop is currently being updated. If you would like to make a request to host or are interested in attending, please email us at: information@orpats.org and include the subject line: Parent Training Reqest.

This workshop is appropriate for EI/ECSE staff planning to implement parent training with families. Participants will receive an overview of the evidence-based strategies taught within the parent training curriculum Teaching Social Communication to Children with Autism by Brooke Ingersoll and Anna Dvortcsak, focusing on direct and indirect strategies and techniques for coaching families with children with ASD and communication and social interaction delays.

New Autism Consultant/Specialist Training

2-Day New Autism Consultant/Specialist Training

The OrPATS Project in collaboration with the Oregon Regional Programs and the Oregon Department of Education will be offering training for Autism Consultants/Specialists this school year. The training will include information on autism characteristics, Oregon assessment and eligibility procedures, evidence-based practices for students with autism and effective consultation methods. The first training is a two day workshop that focuses on autism characteristics and the Oregon eligibility procedures. That training is conducted in the Fall in Salem. The second training is a two day workshop that will focus on evidence-based practices, positive behavior supports, transition planning, visual supports and instructional coaching. This training will take place in January or February. OrPATS will reimburse school districts for travel expenses for participants needing to travel further than 50 miles from home. The training is open to any Regional or District autism consultants and Specialists.

3-Part OrPATS Online Workshop: (Workshop will consist of 3, two hour webinars)


Developing Early Childhood Education Settings to Support Students with Autism and Other Developmental Delays

This training opportunity will provide childcare staff with a greater understanding of working with children with autism enrolled at their center.  Topics discussed will include learning characteristics, behavioral strategies and simple activities to encourage social and language skill development.  This workshop will provide specific examples of evidence-based practices that can be implemented immediately in the childcare setting. Participants will receive visuals and access to valuable online resources.

Who should attend:
Childcare center teachers, assistants and other staff providing services to children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
