Virtual Parent Training
The parent-caregiver training series provides information and tools for supporting children with autism and other developmental disabilities in the home setting. Each session will cover evidence-based and effective strategies to use during routines at home and will cover supports for students in both Pre-K, Primary & Secondary ages. All classes in the series use live instruction, demonstration, video, and discussion to present the information. The sessions are designed as a series, but it is not necessary to attend all sessions to benefit. When possible, we encourage parents-caregivers to attend all 4 sessions within the same cohort. Classroom teachers and/or school support staff are also welcomed to attend for collaboration.
Each session will be 2 hours with approximately 90min of content and 30min of Q & A
Session 1: Identifying Strategies That Work
This session presents the importance of using evidence-based practices that match a student’s strengths and learning style when teaching children with autism and other developmental disabilities. An overview of these strategies is outlined through discussion and video examples.
Session 2: Practicing Skills During Functional Routines
Building independence during routines at home is a great way to practice new skills with your child. This session describes how to break down routines into small steps and practice steps that are difficult. Learn how to embed skill instruction into daily routines and motivate your child to be independent.
Session 3: Visualize It: Using Supports Effectively
This session outlines ways to design structured and predictable environments that support children’s independence and learning. Also included: a discussion of visual schedules, visual supports, and environmental arrangement to teach children important skills and routines.
Session 4: The Fun Part: Play and Social Skills
This session discusses how to practice play and social skills at home. Learn how to teach your child sharing, turn taking, and joint attention through natural play opportunities. Discover strategies such as prompting, imitation, cooperative play, and following directions to increase children’s play and social skills.

Virtual Autism Consultant Training Series
7-Part Online Workshop Series
In past years, our New ASD Consultant/Specialist trainings have been offered in-person to provide orientation, information and resources on topics of interest for new autism consultants and/or specialists. It is also an opportunity to meet and collaborate with colleagues in the same position throughout the state.
We are so excited for the opportunity to offer this annual training in a virtual format this year. This will allow us to meet more frequently as well as collaborate not only with our first year “new” Autism Specialists/Consultants, but also with those ASD Consultant/Specialists looking for a refresher on content or for new information as many districts/programs are now supporting remote, hybrid and blended learning opportunities for students. You are required to register individually and can join for just a few, or for all 7 sessions!
